The old "burn barrel" got a good workout today...
Gisela Wood 9:11pm Jan 21
The old "burn barrel" got a good workout today as the temperatures stayed low. Nevertheless we had a good shoot with a total of 13 shooters and the level of competition seemed to be a touch above normal; maybe every body just wanted to knock down all the targets & go some place to warm up--quickly!
We had four stages of competition today with one by John Kiwacka requiring lots of hits on metal plates of various sizes. John Hinshaw came up with a very unique paper plate stage that incorporated some IDPA tactics and proved to be fun & challenging. We had another stage utilizing movement, rapid reloads and some one-hand shooting with steel silhouettes for targets. We managed to stay on our time schedule so we finished up with a man/man with the steel bowling pins.
Our winners today were LEVEL 1: 1st pl.--Ken Maas; 2nd pl.--Jeff Lewis; 3rd.--Alan Palumbo; 4th--Gisela Wood

LEVEL 2: 1st pl.--Vern Hinshaw; 2nd--Jason Corn; 3rd.--Dick Williams; 4th--Bob Beaver

Special thanks to John Hinshaw & John Kiwacka for helping me run the various stages and to Kathy Kiwacka for helping husband John do an outstanding job on our new scoring system. We're not perfect on all the aspects of the matches but this was one of our better attempts at keeping things running smoothly without too much downtime.
Just for info., I fired 78 rounds today so there was plenty of action to be had.

UPCOMING PISTOL/RIFLE MATCH of Feb. 11, 2012
Expect some fairly long-range shooting with both firearms, probably a team event, and some move & shoot scenarios.
Hopefully, the weather will allow us to stay outside---dress warmly. Now might be a good time to invest in some of those after-Christmas sales on thermal underwear. If we're inside due to the weather, we'll be shooting only paper targets. Past experience shows that steel targets are bad for our tin roof when shooting centerfire so there won't be anymore of that, ever.
Bring 100 rds ammo for each gun, centerfire only, eye & ear protection, spare mags & holders.
Meanwhile, don't forget that we are having our annual meeting and awards ceremony on Jan. 28th at Sandy's in Asheboro. It'll start at 4:00 pm with lots of food & prizes. All our members and loyal shooting brothers & sisters are invited.

See you,
Dick
