Ground so hard we couldn’t pound in the target support stakes so a little improvising with good old duct tape coming into play & we were off to the races. Still better than dodging the rain storms that plagued nearly every match last year!
First round was a pistol event with five steel silhouettes with shooters recording the best two out of three runs. Stage two was a shotgun/only event with flying clays and three clay- target “pop-up” contraptions provided by Billy Haynes. Good fast shooting, reloading and dependable equipment were all tested on this one.
Lastly, we had the shooter walking-the-line in one direction, taking out clays & steel plates along the way with the shotgun; then reversing direction to engage a wide variety of steel with the handgun.
Thanks to all for your help in keeping the stages reset for the next shooter & especially for clearing the range so quickly after the match. We’re fortunate to have so many willing to take part in the “grunt ” work a match requires. Speaking of which, many thanks to Bob Beaver & Doug Armstong who worked continuously fixing up & repairing the grounds while we played in the sun, as well as Mickey Harwell for always providing us with a well-manicured place to shoot–and collect that precious brass for next time!

LEVEL 1 WINNERS: Michael Teague(6-276.1 secs.); Gerald Lambert(6-285.27)
    Danny Coggin(8); Dennis Jennings(10)
LEVEL 2 WINNERS: Billy Haynes(3); Dick Williams(7); Jeff Lewis(8)

Observation: Today’s winners & losers were determined in large part by shotgun glitches: we had way too many failures requiring shooters to clear, reload, etc. In my case, some low-recoil loads found their way into the mix turning my semi-auto into a high-priced Benelli single-shot. That was embarrassing but could have been much worse in the hunting field or facing a rabid fox. Lessons learned, I hope.
Next month will be a rifle/pistol match so bring RELIABLE GUNS & AMMO. The rifle/only stage has already been voted on and will require the shooter to engage a reduced-size silhouette target at “approx.” 100 yds prone, 70 yds sitting/kneeling and 40 yds standing with time constraints of course. I’ll be back in touch before then.
Thank you all again for your fine sportsmanship & stay safe.

“Deplorable” Dick Williams
Has a nice ring to it, don’t you think?

Were expecting a little cooler weather this month but that pretty much went down the tube.
