A good day at the range, with temperatures a little lower than it had been this week. It was “only” around 87\u00b0F. Ten competitors showed up for the match.
My stage one and stage two combined were the air marshal qualification test. Competitors kept the same target for both stages. For stage one, only the raw time counted, accuracy wasn’t a factor for this stage. For stage two, total hits on paper was what counted for score, including the hits on paper from stage one, and time was only a factor for a points tie breaker. If you went fast on stage one, but didn’t have good hits, you placed high in the rankings for that stage, but the poor hits were a detriment to your score and stage rankings on stage two. I found level one scores\/rankings interesting. After the second stage was complete, all three competitors were tied with a rank of four.
Scout and I were the only ones that successfully passed the entire air marshal qual, on paper. Scout is the only one that would truly pass the test, for to be eligible to become an air marshal, one must be “under 37 years of age” and I’m a year or two (or fifteen) over the limit.
Scout also shot a perfect score of 140 points! Dennis was next with the most points, with 131 points. Most everyone else had points in the 120’s.
Dick’s stage was a combination of two miniature uspsa style paper targets and three steel plates.
Scout’s stage had us shooting two knock over steel plates each with strong hand and weak hand only, and then with both hands we engaged three cardboard uspsa targets from around a barricade.
It started drizzling on us around 11:45, but it wasn’t bad and we were done around 12:30.
Match results:
Level 1 1st Emily Haynes, 2nd Bob Beaver, 3rd Dennis Jennings
Level 2 1st Bobby Nichols, 2nd Alan Ritchie, 3rd Jerry Lock, 4th Dick Williams
Level 3 1st Scout Nichols, 2nd Billy Haynes, 3rd Mitch Stirewalt
